Maine Group Blasts Pro-Family Candidate's Appearance at Governor's PAC Event

By Jeff Johnson
October 18, 2006

(AgapePress) - The Republican candidate for governor of Maine is under fire for attending a press conference supporting a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual political action committee (PAC).

Mike Heath, executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine (CCLM), believes State Senator Chandler Woodcock is a pro-life, pro-family conservative. However, Heath says he wishes Woodcock had not attended a recent news conference promoting former New Jersey Governor Christian Whitman's "It's My Party, Too" PAC.

"We felt it was odd," Heath notes, "and perhaps inappropriate for [Woodcock] to be present at that meeting." He says he and his group would have preferred that the Senator had not attended and "wished that if he wanted to make a statement about civility and citizenship that he would hold his own press conference."

Whitman's PAC identifies a number of pro-abortion and pro-homosexual groups, including the Log Cabin Republicans and Planned Parenthood Republicans Choice, as its so-called "strategic partners."

Meanwhile, former President Bill Clinton is raising money for Woodcock's opponent, incumbent Democrat Governor John Baldacci.
