(AgapePress) - A Christian activist group from Wisconsin spent the last several days in one Virginia city as part of a campaign to proclaim God’s truth in advance of a planned weekend rally by a pro-homosexual organization.
Wisconsin Christians United spent three days in Lynchburg holding informational pickets at intersections, street preaching, and distributing literature proclaiming God’s truth about homosexuality. The campaign was in response to a series of events set for this weekend in Lynchburg by the homosexual group Soulforce. That group is led by Mel White, a homosexual pastor who has moved, along with his partner, across the street from Rev. Jerry Falwell’s Thomas Road Baptist Church.
Pastor Ralph Ovadal, director of Wisconsin Christians United, says he took advantage of the opportunity to travel to Lynchburg and share God’s word.
"We did a number of 'prophetic pickets,' I call them, where we put up signs with biblical messages about homosexuality," Ovadal explains. "We went to busy intersections with our signs. We also gave out literature to the drivers of cars."
Ovadal says the literature being distributed included a tract that he wrote called "What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality," and an insert titled "A Wolf on the Loose in Lynchburg." The first, he says, refutes the lies of the homosexual movement, and the other exposes what he describes as "Mel White's corrupt ministry."
Ovadal says as a result of his group's campaign, homosexual activists heard God’s truth. "We had a very powerful time," he says. "We did share the gospel with Mel [White] again, and prayed that if he isn't reprobate that he would repent and become a brother. We just prayed that God would counter [White's] lies with truth and defend His holy truth -- and we're confident that He was doing that while we were there, and He'll continue to do it."
White and his male partner are living in a rented home across the street from Thomas Road Baptist Church. They are attending the church, hoping to convince Pastor Falwell to change his views on homosexuality.
