Favoritism Toward Non-Christian Religions in U.S. Improper, Says Attorney

By Chad Groening
October 25, 2006

(AgapePress) - A Michigan-based law center that defends the religious freedoms of Christians says the courts, the schools, and even the military should stop favoring religions that don't represent the values and traditions of America.

A recent report out of Iraq stated that military personnel were ordered to take "sensitivity training" in connection with the Muslim observance called Ramadan. Edward L. White III is the trial counsel for the Thomas More Law Center, which recently defended some California seventh-graders who were indoctrinated in class about Islam. (See related article) White is convinced that Islam and other religions -- specifically, those that are not the dominant religions in America -- are constantly being allowed to do things that Christianity cannot. In other words, he says, they are given "a pass."

"The courts and the schools, in particular, look at [those other religions] as though this is something different [and] it's okay to do things that we would never allow you to do when it comes to Christianity," the attorney says. That attitude, he explains, has a snowball effect.

"The problem with that is that, all of a sudden, it starts running rampant," White continues. "It starts running through the public schools, even all the way to the military of sensitivity training with regard to various things that there's really no need for."

The attorney points out that America was founded on Christian principles -- so "that's the one that should be advanced," he says. But White is quick to point out that it is also good to know about other religions.

"You need to 'know your enemy,' so to speak -- especially since Islam is in the news all the time and with radical Islam trying to destroy us as a people," says White. "But it should not be where we don't teach students about who we are as a people and the religious basis of this country and [instead] give favoritism to a religion that is not what this country was based upon."

The Thomas More Law Center recently stated that according to some federal court and schools around the country, Christianity is "out" while Islam is "in."
