(AgapePress) - A pro-family activist says a recent national meeting of homosexual teachers was filled with hate and intolerance towards those who oppose homosexuality.
At the annual conference of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), hosted by the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel, audience members were encouraged to sue schools over school proms, homecoming king and queen contests, and sports activities.
Karen Holgate, director of policy for the Sacramento-based Capitol Resource Institute, says attendees were told to specifically use California Assembly Bill 537 to gain school approval for more "Gay Straight Alliance" activities.
"They get the ACLU to come along and join them, and then they sue schools -- they sue for money, they sue under 'hate crimes,' that type of thing," Holgate says. "And basically what they do [is] scare the schools, because the schools don't have the money to fight -- and the schools cave in. They've been extremely effective in doing that."
Holgate says it is important that people across the country be aware that GLSEN wants special treatment and wishes to trample the rights and beliefs of those who disagree with them. She adds that the organization wants to infiltrate not only public schools, but private religious schools as well. She says a workshop at the conference, called "Queers and Crucifixes," urged attendees to organize Gay Straight Alliances in Catholic schools.
"We know from Gay Straight Alliances that have formed on other school campuses that basically what they're doing ... is training the students to become activists -- how to push their agenda, how to sue the school in order to get more pro-homosexual activities into the classroom," she says. "So they're actually using the students to push their agenda."
Holgate is also expressing disappointment with the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel for holding the conference and providing a gender-neutral restroom and so-called "trans-only spaces."
