'Feminist Lies' Blamed for Fewer Guys on Campus

(AgapePress) - A men’s issues columnist says rampant anti-male feminism has made colleges a place where many males feel unwanted and unwelcome.

In a recent commentary titled "Why Men Don’t Go to College," Glenn Sacks offers several reasons why the percentage of males on campus has dropped to 43%. Sacks says one factor is what ex-feminist Christina Hoff Sommers calls "hate statistics" directed at men.

"At our universities today, you have these sensationalized lies about men that are put out by women's studies departments and women's centers -- and they've become an integral part of the campus culture," Sacks says.

He cites two of those claims: "one in four college women has been a victim of rape or attempted rape" and "30% of emergency room visits by women are due to domestic violence." According to Sacks, such claims have been discredited for a long time. Yet, he says, in the "hermetically sealed world of the university," such feminist lies are widespread and create a hostile environment for men.

Sacks cites other reasons for the downturn in males on campuses. He blames the media -- which he says is sympathetic to feminists -- as well as men themselves.

"[The media] put way too much stock in a lot of the claims that various women's groups or feminist groups make," he says, "[and] I think part of the problem is that men have not stood up for [themselves].

"We [men] never should have allowed this to happen -- and the male administrators, the male professors, the parents, and the students have allowed this hostile environment to be created in universities, with hardly any resistance."

Sacks says young men need to educate themselves about anti-male feminism, and refuse to accept it anymore.
