| PTA's Agenda No Longer Educational, Says Pro-Family Leader By Jim Brown (AgapePress) - A pro-family leader says the National Parent Teachers' Association has become irrelevant. A recent Washington Times report says more moms and dads are forming local, independent Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTOs) out of a growing dissatisfaction with the PTA's political leanings. Ken Connor, president of Family Research Council, says the PTA has abandoned its goal of enhancing education, and has focused increasingly on social engineering and the indoctrination of young children. "The PTA is involved in everything from promoting the notion that all sexual preferences and choices are the same to encouraging very, very explicit sexual education; opposing parental choice in education," Connor says. "What they really increasingly have been about is a social agenda, not an educational agenda." Connor is encouraging parents to avoid sending contributions to the PTA's national office because it promotes a social agenda that is out of step with mainstream America. The PTA, he says, has become increasingly insignificant. "Over the course of time, it really has adopted a philosophy of social engineering," he says, "and I think the reason behind that is they recognize the truth of Abraham Lincoln's statement that the philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation is the philosophy of government in the next. "These people have a radical social agenda, and they are using the platform that they're afforded through the PTA to promote that agenda." The PTA once boasted a membership of 12 million during the 1960s, but currently has only half that amount. © 2002 AgapePress all rights reserved.
