| The Hard Line The Real State of the Union
(AgapePress) - President Bush was supposed to have given us the “state of the union” the other night, but instead he delivered a vision of world utopia, with the United States vanquishing evil everywhere. And he unbosomed himself of the usual cliched political rhetoric. “Leave no child behind,” he said to the scripted applause of the political elite before him. So here’s an abridged state of the union: Unconstitutional Government Here’s a random, short list of the unconstitutional agencies that must be abolished: The Departments of Education, Commerce, Health and Human Services, and Housing and Urban Development, along with the Small Business Administration, the National Endowments for the Humanities and Arts, the Bureau of Indian Affair and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. And many constitutionally permissible agencies flatly violate the Constitution as well. Chief among them are the Congress, president and U.S. Supreme Court themselves. Congress and the president spend most of their time creating unconstitutional government and using other constitutionally permissible agencies, particularly the armed forces, for unconstitutional acts. Making undeclared war in foreign countries is but one example. For its part, the Supreme Court frequently overturns legitimate state laws that violate the Constitution only because of court precedents that also are unconstitutional. Abortion laws are the best example. In 1973, the high court overturned abortion laws in 50 states and the U.S. territories, perhaps the most avaricious, frightening grab for power in its history. Since then, regulating abortion in any way has been nearly impossible. Congress, the president and the Supreme Court have also gutted the Tenth Amendment, which reserves for the states any powers the Constitution does not give the federal government. Taxing Power So dismantling the bureaucracy isn’t enough. We must also take away the instrument used to erect it. The income tax must be abolished. As anti-tax activists observe, Americans work full time about five months a year to pay taxes for all levels government. They slog away under the muzzle of the unconstitutional bureaucracy’s cocked revolver, the Internal Revenue Service. That isn’t freedom; it’s slavery. Our Moral Climate We profess to respect life, but murder the unborn. We profess to respect the family, but we permit “no-fault” divorce. We spend tax money on condoms and birth control pills, then wonder why teenagers are rutting like insensate animals. We even permit the degrading, barbaric practices of in vitro fertilization and “surrogate motherhood.” Meanwhile, the liberal media and its allies in public schools, universities and the entertainment industry wage unremitting war on the Christian principles that undergird our laws. Art, music and theater offer a nauseating cascade of filth that defame and degrade traditional religion, culture and morals and historical figures. The Real Axis of Evil Well, the real “axis of evil,” the real enemies of American freedom, are not on the other side of the planet. They are here: the federal bureaucracy, the politicians who created it and the destroyers of our culture. That’s the state of our union. R.
