Conference Pushes Homosexuality, Clothed in 'Lavender Language'

By Jim Brown and Jody Brown
February 12, 2003

(AgapePress) - A leading pro-family voice is denouncing a university conference that will examine the language homosexuals use to communicate with their partners -- and he is offended it is taking place at his alma mater.

As reported by Cybercast News Service, on Valentine's Day, American University in Washington will host its 10th annual "Conference on Lavender Languages and Linguistics." During the three-day conference, a panel of university professors will instruct fellow colleagues and students on the proper usage of homosexual mating lingo.

According to the university's website, the conference focus will be on roundtable discussions and presentations that "explore lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, or queer related languages." Conference sessions include titles such as "Unpacking the Language of Homophobia" and the reading of a "gay western" about a verbal battle between a "gay and lesbian army and religious fundamentalists."

Bob Knight

Bob Knight of the Culture and Family Institute is an alumnus of American University.

"American University does a lot of things well, particularly international relations -- and I went to American University to study political science," Knight says. "I'm shocked and appalled that they're using university time to sponsor what amounts to promotion of homosexuality in the guise of studying language."

The event, Knight says, is -- pure and simple -- a promotion of sinful behavior. "This is an attempt to take sex and make it something entirely separate from real life -- strictly recreational, having no bearing on anything else but sex itself," he says.

"This shows the homosexual tendency to try to remove sex from its position in forming families [and in] procreation. Whenever they can sever the tie between sex and procreation and marriage, they do it."

Knight says if American wants to be taken seriously and climb the ranks of prominent universities, it ought to hold more serious conferences. He says the school should be spending its time on military strategy conferences -- not the silliness of homosexual language.
