Hawaii Residents Fund Homosexual Bash on Oahu

(AgapePress) - A family values advocate in Hawaii says the state tourism authority should think twice about promoting what is being called "sex tourism."

The Hawaii Tourism Authority has spent $50,000 of taxpayer money to promote a three-day homosexual "circuit party." The event, dubbed "The Volcano Party Weekend," is described by one pro-family activist as a three-day drug binge and orgy. Host hotels for the event, which took place last month at the Hawai'i Convention Center, were the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and the Ala Moana Hotel.

Mike Gabbard, founder and chairman of the Alliance for Traditional Marriage and Values, says the taxpayers should not be forced to pay for a homosexual orgy, which has been condemned by the Centers for Disease Control as hotbeds of illicit drug use and dangerous sexual behavior.

"So basically what it is, it’s a homosexual orgy," Gabbard says. "There’s just mountains of drugs. Our main point is sex tourism -- whether it’s homosexual or heterosexual -- is really going to completely undermine our family-oriented visitor industry, which is the foundation of our economy here in Hawaii."

Gabbard says the real irony is that the money generated by the "circuit parties" goes to benefit the Maui AIDS Foundation. He says it is outrageous for an organization that is supposed to fight AIDS to be doing just the opposite, and profiting from it.

"Society rightly condemns the killing of homosexuals by heterosexuals. So how can we in good conscience use taxpayer dollars to promote the killing of homosexuals by other homosexuals?" Gabbard asks. "When a homosexual kills another homosexual, no one says a word. The victim is just another AIDS statistic."

Gabbard notes that many homosexuals agree with his point of view. He points to a 1998 statement by Troy Masters, publisher of a homosexual New York newspaper, who said: “The parties give the AIDS organization not only money but future clients. It’s like a self-perpetuating machine."

Additional groups supporting the Alliance for Traditional Marriage and Values include Hawaii Christian Coalition, Pro-Family Hawaii, American Center for Law and Justice, and Stop Promoting Homosexuality International.
