Protests Against 'Kinsey' Film Largely Ignored by Hollywood

(AgapePress) - Despite objections from leading pro-family voices, Hollywood is continuing work on a film that attempts to portray the life of a controversial sex researcher who supervised the rape and abuse of children.

The film about late Indiana University professor Alfred Kinsey -- who is known as the "father of the sexual revolution" -- is being produced by American Zoetrope Studios, and stars actor Liam Neeson. Conservatives are concerned the United Artists film will glorify a man who had pedophiles conduct sexual experiments on children.

Pro-family groups had mounted a campaign to derail production of Kinsey, but radio talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger says those protests have been mostly ignored.

"The only thing we managed to do is get them to be more clever," she offers. "I understand that they're only going to change one scene where [the actor portraying Kinsey says]: 'Oh my gosh! I don't like pedophiles!'"

Schlessinger says assuming that information is accurate, she expects the producers to be "even more horrendous" in hiding the fact that pedophilia was a part of Kinsey's life. She also believes the pro-family effort has received little exposure because "adults having sex with children is not a big issue with the left-leaning media."

"There was a big flurry and then it just sort of died," she says. "I guess [any sort of public outcry is] going to have to be at the box office.

"It is pretty scary -- but not a surprise -- that Hollywood would be totally irresponsible about something [as] horrible [as] the abuse of children," the popular radio commentator says. "Even this doesn't tip their scales. Our country is in a serious culture war -- and I think the bad guys are winning."

A few months ago, Variety magazine refused to run an ad exposing the truth about Alfred Kinsey's work.

Deathly Quiet
A pro-family advocate attributes the degradation of American culture to a lack of strong leadership coming from the nation's pulpits.

The Michigan-based American Decency Association (ADA) has long waged a campaign to educate the public on the nature of a catalog distributed by clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch. ADA President Bill Johnson says the catalog is blatant pornography and targets young people.

Johnson says it is sad that there is very little outcry about the catalog from parents who call themselves Christian. But sadder still, he says, is the lack of action from the pulpit.

He says the number-one problem is that too many pulpits are "soft on preaching" and are not preaching "Holy Spirit-led messages from the Word of God relative to taking a stand and having convictions."

Johnson says it is not enough for Christians to pass by an Abercrombie & Fitch store and ignore the pornographic influence on children. He says for Christians to truly be salt and light, they must confront the evil and state their objections.
