| Feminism Detrimental to Families and Nation, Pastor Says By Jim Brown (AgapePress) - A Baptist pastor and conservative radio talk-show host says the days of masculine presidents in the United States are over. Dr. Chuck Baldwin, pastor of Crossroad Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida, says the women’s vote is largely the one that determines any given election. The former chairman of the Florida Moral Majority says appeasing feminists is a high priority for both Democrats and Republicans these days. According to Baldwin, Ronald Reagan was the last masculine president in the United States. Baldwin says that during his time in office, the “great communicator” was looked up to as a “man’s man.” “We have even read the press reports where one of Reagan’s cabinet officers -- Elizabeth Dole, to be specific -- even complained during his second administration that he was too masculine and was, therefore, turning women away from him," he says. Baldwin says it is a "sad commentary" when a man is considered too masculine -- and adds that Dole is probably correct in that a vast percentage of people do not look to men as masculine. The Baptist pastor says in his more than 25 years as a pastor, he has seen a dramatic departure, even among professing Christians, from the traditional role of men as heads of their homes. He says feminism has only negative implications for the family. “It teaches boys that their leadership is not necessary," he says. "It 'de-masculizes' them -- it gives them a perception that their leadership is not required in society. It gives young girls the attitude that they are the leaders in the home, the church, etc. -- that basically, they are independent of men.” Baldwin says the radical feminist ideas that were screamed in protest by Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem 30 years ago have even become mainstream in America’s religious institutions. © 2002 AgapePress all rights reserved.
