| Esteemed Christian Teacher Casts His Vote -- It's a 'Just' War By Allie Martin (AgapePress) - A popular Bible teacher and preacher says those who oppose the war to liberate Iraq need to read God's Word. Dr. Henry Blackaby says there is no question that the current war to liberate Iraq is a "just" war -- according to biblical standards. Blackaby points out that the first six verses of Romans 13 give leaders the authority to invoke war and also to rescue oppressed people from evil tyrants. The well-known author says President George W. Bush is not only a believer himself, but also surrounds himself with godly people. "Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity of being at the White House for a briefing, and I was profoundly aware of the number of people who really know the Lord who surround the president," Blackaby says. "The person who talked first [at the briefing] said, 'You need to know today the president and the White House [are] in perfect peace. He's been with his Lord.'" Blackaby says that those who resist the president's authority bring God's judgment on themselves. He adds that he believes the president is correct in his belief that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein poses a destructive threat to the entire world. "I think absolutely [that] President Bush believes the destructive potential of what we're facing is real and extensive," he says. "And with the proliferation of the terrorists in almost every nation of the world, they could [use] just a little vial of biological or chemical ingredients, and we have no antidote for it." Blackaby says while war is costly, sometimes it is necessary in a world marred by sin. © 2003 AgapePress all rights reserved.
