'Thwan Thong' for A&F's Sexy Underwear for Kids

(AgapePress) - An official with the American Family Association believes the actions of concerned parents prompted clothier Abercrombie & Fitch to stop selling "thong" underwear for children.

Only yesterday, members of OneMillionMoms.com and OneMillionDads.com were asked by the Mississippi-based pro-family group to send e-mails, faxes, and phone calls to express outrage over A&F's line of rear-less underwear for children. According to an OMM/OMD press release, the clothing retailer was selling the undergarments -- available in sizes for girls ages 10 to 16, but with small sizes that would fit girls even younger -- to make children "sexually stimulating to adults."

AFA executive assistant Buddy Smith says the actions of concerned parentS produced quick results. "This is the first time that I'm aware of that they have been responsive to public pressure," Smith says. "I think that they just had an avalanche of protest, and I think they were required to take a second look at what they were doing."

Donald Wildmon is CEO of OneMillionMoms.com and OneMillionDads.com. While noting that A&F still needs to remove what he describes as "soft-core porn" from its catalogs, he expressed his pride in the thousands of concerned parents who cared enough to contact A&F in the last day.

A spokesman for A&F says the stores stopped selling the thong underwear for kids because stock ran out. No more shipments are planned. But Smith disputes that statement, saying he believes A&F is just trying to make it appear it has not given in to pressure and protest from consumers.

Still, children's thong underwear was pulled from A&F's Internet catalog within 24 hours after the initial protests began.
