| Bauer: Sodomy Decision a 'Battering Ram' in Hands of Homosexual Activists By Bill Fancher and Jody Brown (AgapePress) - A leading pro-family voice in Washington is sounding the alarm in the wake of a Supreme Court decision that essentially sanctions homosexual sex in the country. He warns of an onslaught -- even more determined than before -- against the very thing upon which America was built: the family structure. Homosexuals and their supporters are celebrating Thursday's Supreme Court decision which struck down individual states' laws against sodomy. Family values activist Gary Bauer, still reeling from the decision, calls the ruling a "disaster for the pro-family side of America's culture war." He believes homosexual activists will use this decision to promote same-sex marriages -- and that, he says, "will open the floodgates." "They will [use it] as a battering ram by the homosexual-rights movement to say the country has changed, that homosexuality is mainstream -- and they'll use it as an argument for same-sex marriage," Bauer says. "It will be another very difficult move against traditional values." Bauer fears that laws banning incest and pedophilia will also fall prey to the precedent which the high court has set. "I've argued repeatedly that if we have same-sex marriage, you cannot then constitutionally stop a man who wants to marry three women," he says. "People say that's nuts -- but legally, one follows the other."
"Once the highest court of the land says that 'privacy' outweighs the compelling interest a society has in promoting family, and reliable standards of right and wrong, there is no place to draw the line." He then poses the question: If two adults want to use drugs in the privacy of their own bedroom, isn't their "right to privacy" being violated by state laws prohibiting such behavior? "Indeed, even the drug legalization crowd must be celebrating [about the Supreme Court's decision]," he says. Bauer then cites several past decisions from federal courts that have undermined traditional values. "[America] is a place where unborn children can be destroyed on a whim, a nation that requires parental permission for a tattoo, but not an abortion. "It is a country where a copy of the Ten Commandments on the courthouse lawn is a threat to our liberty and the words 'under God' in our Pledge of Allegiance [are] a violation of the separation of church and state. "And soon it may be a place that allows men to marry men, effectively destroying 2,000 years of Judeo-Christian tradition on the meaning of marriage." According to Bauer, because of such decisions, it is imperative that President Bush appoint an "Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas type" of judge should an vacancy arise on the Supreme Court -- and "not another wimp [who is] ready to surrender to the social radicals." © 2003 AgapePress all rights reserved.
