Legal Marriage Draws U.S. Homosexuals Across Canadian Border

By Fred Jackson
June 26, 2003

(AgapePress) - As predicted, American homosexuals have started flocking across the Canadian border to become legally married.

Earlier this month, an appeals court in the Province of Ontario ruled that Canada's law restricting marriage to heterosexuals was unconstitutional, and that effective immediately homosexuals could be legally married in that province. Within days, Canada's federal government announced it would not appeal the decision.

Pro-family groups in the United States sounded the alarm, noting that because Canadian marriages are recognized in the U.S., American homosexuals would take full advantage of the situation. [See Earlier Article] According to the Boston Globe, that is exactly what is happening.

The newspaper reports that dozens of homosexuals couples -- both men and women -- from the U.S. have already traveled to Ontario to obtain marriage licenses. And that number is expected to soar this week as the City of Toronto plays host to a huge homosexual celebration known as "Pride Week."

The Globe says the Toronto city clerk's office has even announced it will stay open throughout this weekend to accommodate those who want to mark the event by getting legally married.
