| Calif. School Disallows Christian Club's Posters Bearing Scriptures By Jim Brown (AgapePress) - A San Francisco Bay Area high school is being threatened with a lawsuit over its decision to censor a Christian student club. The Hayward, California, school has barred a Christian group from putting up posters with Bible verses to announce their meetings. A feminist club and the Gay Straight Alliance, however, have been allowed to put up their posters. Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute, has sent a demand letter to the school, claiming its "viewpoint discrimination" was in clear violation of the Equal Access Act. "Everything will be fine," he says, if the school stops what he describes as "discrimination, hostility, and intolerance" toward Christian clubs.
The attorney says it appears the school only has tolerance for the views of non-Christians. "[H]omosexual clubs and groups that are just anti-God are allowed to put up their posters that say things like 'Two, four, six, eight, do you know you're really straight?' -- clearly advocating a message that's hostile to those of Christian faith and what Christians believe," he explains. "So it's a double standard." Dacus says this school resides in the same district that had previously approved a separate prom for students who had decided that they were homosexual. © 2004 AgapePress all rights reserved.
